Cladding has become a new buzzword. But could it be used to transform a building’s façade?

Take a walk through any business district and you can easily guess which era some buildings were from, particularly tiled facades which were very popular in the 70s and 80s. Whilst these facades provide an interesting insight into trends from years gone by, they are often plagued with issues.

What can be done when age and other factors take their toll on a building’s facade? This is where Magellan really come into their own.

With over twenty years of experience in façade restoration, Magellan knew exactly how to approach this substantial project and that cladding was the answer. But the real test would be in the preparation involved. For when the tiles were removed from the entire façade, they revealed their long-kept secret.

There was widespread concrete spalling reaching as far down as the structural columns. This required the exposed steel reinforcement to be treated to engineers’ standards, reinstatement of a whooping 8,000 litres of concrete to the façade, even before the installation of the new aluminium composite cladding and glazing could begin.

Magellan’s ability to project manage each stage and liaise with the council, engineers and third parties meant a complicated project could run seamlessly.

With the results speaking for themselves, the façade looks fresher than ever and ready to last though many more decades.
